Portrait of Rina Bhabra

RINA BHABRA

I am an Australian artist living in Perth and my journey began in East Africa, the place of my birth. The beautiful wild animals of Kenya have influenced my life as an artist. Untamed Africa is where I cultivated and nurtured my love of colour, movement and vibrancy in my style as a painter.

I began to experiment with vivid earthy colours and with this, came a freedom to break away from the technical restraints of artistic rules and I saw art as a way of freeing myself from the world to become that unique voice as an artist. I use any medium to express myself and nothing is off limits. My art is always evolving as I find new ways to paint, draw and articulate myself through my paintings.

Coming to Australia in 2001 brought a whole new perspective and experience. My recent exposure to the beauty of the Australian urban jungle — which now consists of my latest “Perth” series — reflects this. I have also had the privilege to illustrate two wonderful books by authors Sandra Ruddle and Marg Kinneen. These have opened up a whole new way of expressing myself.

I keep busy with many commissions that keep coming my way!

  • The “Quokka” painting won first prize in a pool of over 100 entries and became the centre of the Boutique Gin Label for Dune Distilling in 2020.
  • My mural painting for the 4 Pines Beer with Black Brewing Company was a finalist in 2020.
  • My Tiger Stealth (now sold) has had quite a few commendations through exhibitions and art competitions.

“Come with me on this colourful and wonderful journey that I call ART!”
